Riehmer's Hofgarten an ensemble of buildings from the 19th century is home to a Berlin publishing house in Kreuzberg.Unplastered walls of different masonry from different periods of reconstruction remain visible and are only pulled together by a slurry. They provide a homogeneous background. This is contrasted by a light, shimmering, reflective world of shelves, curtains, mirrors and lights that bring the light deep into the unit and put the book in focus.

A maximally efficient shelving construction with large spans thickens the walls and stages an existing enfilade in a new way. Double doors lock into place and become part of the shelving construction. A grid of maximally reduced luminaires forms a new horizon and radically overlays the entire unit. Due to the economy of means, all interior fittings are designed from ready-mates and seek simplicity and clarity with maximum efficiency.
